Books, as people, have their own story. The one of this series about Walt Disney dates back to June 1996, when I started to compile the majority of the information and bibliographic material necessary for a study of these characteristics.

Taking advantage of my staying in the Municipal Library of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where I made the community service in place of military service as conscientious objector, I investigated and became absorbed in the newspaper library to rescue up to the last useful document that could be helpful for me. In different trips made to London and Madrid through those years (and also taking advantage any time that a relative or friend traveled to New York to ask them books and articles impossible to find here) I have been compiling an amazing bibliographic material that covers more than fifty books and almost one hundred articles related –directly or indirectly- to Walt Disney and the world of animation.

The aim of that effort was focused, in principle, to a project of investigation about the animated shorts made by the Disney Studio between 1923 and 1967 and that I had in mind to convert into a book with the help of The Walt Disney Productions in Hollywood.

With the idea in my mind and the project under the arm, in December 1998 I went to Madrid to present it to Walt Disney España. But unquiet by nature and waiting for a reply I continued working in a preliminary manuscript about the biography of Walt Disney that became a text of 200 pages and covered in depth the historical period between his birth (in 1905) and the end of the Second World War (in 1945). In the same way, a part of the research was focused in the compilation of information and biographic data for a wide glossary, with more than one hundred and fifty animators, that would enrich the book.

In view of the fact that the Americans didn’t answer, I looked for a Spanish editor who could be interested in the project and that was how, at the end of June 1999, I contacted Juan Tejero, publisher of T&B Editores (Madrid), who had been some time looking for an author to write a book about the animated features of Walt Disney. It is in this moment when the journalist Olga Mataix enters into the project, becoming coauthor of the book “Walt Disney. El Universo Animado de los Largometrajes (1937-1967)”. At the beginning, and in agreement, the authors decided to add to the new project the biography about Walt Disney and the glossary of the animators that I had yet worked in, but as the book was having a form, both the publisher and the authors realized that it would be better to convert it in two books and publish them in a separate way. Consequently, once the work about the films had concluded, both authors focused in continuing the writing of the biography of Walt Disney from the point I had stopped.

Due to the good acceptance both by the critic and the public, T&B Editores and me have decided to continue with the publication of more new Disney books, written this time on my own. In fact, this project has different parts: two volumes about the animated features (one about the animated features made by Walt Disney when he was alive, it is, from 1937 to 1967, and a second one that covers all the productions of the Studio after the death of its creator- it is from 1970 to 2001), what is complemented with a biography of the character (“Walt Disney. El Hombre, el mito”).

The cinematographic analysis of the film career of Walt Disney will be completed with a little book dedicated to the animated shorts (the series of Mickey Mouse, Donald, Goofy and Pluto) and, T&B will probably close its Disney collection with the last volume about the live action films (La isla del tesoro, Pollyanna, Mary Poppins, etc.), so that this way the Publisher House T&B will complete the biggest study that, without any doubt, has been made in Europe about the life and work of Walt Disney.
